Jean (Hoover) Piper

Jean Piper, age 78, of Duncansville, died Saturday, September 24, 2022 at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.. She was born December 13, 1943 in Altoona, daughter of the late Calhoun James and Geraldine Ruth (Sell) Hoover. She married Donald F. Piper on Oct. 29, 1966 at St. Luke’s Church, Roaring Spring. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 2011.

Surviving are two step-sons: Rick Piper (Irene Brumbaugh) of Gamble, Wa. and Gary Piper of East Freedom; and her step-daughter, Cheryl Smith (Kevin) of Flinton; 7 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Walls (Norman) of Duncansville; a brother, James Hoover (Mary) of Hollidaysburg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her step-sons: Jeffery Piper and Ronald Piper.

Jean was a 1961 graduate of Altoona Vo-Tech School and a 1983 graduate of Mount Aloysius, where she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing Science. She retired as a nursing supervisor from The Village at Morrisons Cove, and was previously employed at Nason Hospital and The Home Nursing Agency.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg. She did volunteer work at the church, Sacred Music Library, Dreams Go On, Homewood, and was an Ombudsman for Blair Senior Services. Jean loved riding her horses, Rusty and Randy, and enjoyed playing the piano.

At Jean’s request, there will be no services. Private interment was held at Alto-Reste Cemetery.
