Helen E (Thomas) Young

Helen Elizabeth Young, age 94, a resident of the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, formerly of Duncansville, died peacefully Sunday morning, June 4, 2023 at the home. She was born July 24, 1928 in Altoona, a daughter of the late Martin and Edna (Donaldson) Thomas. She married John Franklin “Jack” Young on January 14, 1950 at Duncansville Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2016. They had a long and happy life together.

She is survived by two daughters: Debra Williams (Wally) and Kathy Snyder (Steve), of Hollidaysburg; two grandchildren: Stephanie McIntyre (Sean) and Chris Williams (Jolene); a great-grandson Carter Williams; a sister Mary Dunkle (Alvin); and a nephew Bruce Dunkle.

She was preceded in death by a grandson Frank Ayers III on Feb. 17, 2018, and a sister Betty Myers.

Helen was a 1946 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. Her work career consisted of secretary to the executive director at the Hollidaysburg YMCA, where she was an advisor to many Tri-Hi-Y girls. She also managed IDA Towers in Altoona for many years and retired from the Blair County Courthouse.

She was a member of St. John’s Reformed Church, Hollidaysburg.

 Helen was a very happy and strong woman. Her greatest joy was her family, friends, and her love of the Lord. Helen was a shining star. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Friends will be received on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 10am until the noon funeral service at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville. Pastor Ralph Hamer will officiate services. Interment will take place at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
