Doris A. Mentzer, age 91, of Hollidaysburg, died early Wednesday morning, January 12, 2022, at her home with family close by. As Doris would say, “She is packing her bags, loading up the trailer, and going camping in Heaven!” She was born October 19, 1930 in Martinsburg, a daughter of the late Harry R. and Catherine (Raessler) Stoner. She married Richard E. “Chick” Mentzer on October 12, 1950 in Palmyra, PA by her grandfather Archibald Raessler. Chick preceded her in death on July 4, 2001.
Surviving are: two children, Sandy Fluke and Rick Mentzer (Pandora Kujanpaa); two grandchildren: Kristin Woleslagle (Chad), and Hannah Mentzer (Pedro Lopez); seven great-grandchildren, Adam Fluke, Alisa Smith (Shawn), Jayden Mentzer, Jayden Lopez, Kylee Lopez, Sydney Woleslagle, and Sage Rodriquez; one great-great grandchild, Kacy Smith; a sister, “Dappy” Stoner; and a sister-in-law, Vivian “Biddy” Dugan.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Shannon (Fluke) Zook and two brothers: Ren and Bob Stoner.
Doris graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1948 and was retired as a bookkeeper from the Hollidaysburg Trust Company Bank.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg. Camping and Square Dancing were two of her favorite pastimes. Doris was a member of the Chim Rock Squares Square Dancing Club and numerous camping clubs over the years. Doris and Chick would travel the east coast camping, square dancing, and meeting new friends. Surviving friends like Sharon and Gary Gearhart, Evelyn Lingenfelter and the whole Lingenfelter Clan were so close that they became members of the family.
