Donald Dicken Obituary

Donald E. Dicken, age 89, a resident of The Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg, formerly of Carson Valley, died unexpectedly Monday, December 27, 2021 at the home. He was born August 6, 1932 in Altoona, son of the late Edward R. Dicken and Madalene Mae (Thomas) Dicken-Gorsuch. He married S. Carolyn “Kate” Shaffer on June 6, 1959. She preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 2018.

Surviving are three children: Scott Dicken (Barbara) of Cottage Grove, Minn., Todd Dicken (Lisa) of Huntingdon, and Heidi Fogle (Paul) of Duncansville; 6 grandchildren; and a great-grandson, Liam, whom brought great joy to Don.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Stoehr.

Don was a 1950 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a self-employed general contractor. Prior to being a contractor, he worked for A&P Bakery.

Mr. Dicken was a member of Hick’s Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a past leader of the Youth Group and was a member of the Gene Lindsey Sunday School class. He was a member of the Lakemont Lions Club, where he was a past president and had received the Lion of the Year Award. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge. Don enjoyed spending time with his family.

Friends will be received on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 5 to 8pm at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1218 4th Ave., Duncansville. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 4 at 11am at Hick’s Memorial United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Rich Morris. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Carson Valley Cemetery.
