Betty L. Claar, age 97, of Duncansville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2021, with her family by her side. She was born December 9, 1923 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Norman G. and Mary C. (Smith) Larson. She married Julius E. Claar on Jan. 30, 1942. He preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 2013.
She is survived by four children: Barry, Gary, Judy and John; 9 grandchildren: Heidi, Shawn, Shana, Gary Wayne, Jason, Jennifer, Nichole, John Jr., and Andrew; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Janet A. Ickes of Newbury, Ohio, and a special person, Cenedra Lynn, a close family friend who was a wonderful caregiver and presence in Betty’s life the last several years.
Betty was preceded in death by a brother, Norman G. Larson, Jr., and a granddaughter, Heather.
Mrs. Claar attended Hollidaysburg Area High School. She had worked for F.W. Woolworth Co. and the G.C. Murphy Co. She was a member of the Hollidaysburg First United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed crafts, playing cards, gardening, and reading her Bible. But most of all, she loved and enjoyed her family.
Friends will be received on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville, and also on Friday, June 4, from 10 until the 11am funeral service, officiated by Pastor John Godissart, at Hollidaysburg First United Methodist Church, 801 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg. Committal will take place at Alto-Reste Cemetery, Altoona.
