Bertha M (Chmelarsky) Beyer

Bertha M. Beyer, age 89, of Duncansville, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, February 23, 2020, at UPMC Altoona, with her loving family by her side. She was born April 30, 1930 in Crabtree, PA, a daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Sakolsky) Chmelarsky. She married Herman J. Beyer, of Sidman, on Aug. 9, 1947 and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2009. “They are now together again”.

Survived by her daughter, Mary (Margaret), wife of Jeffrey Schwartz, Duncansville; her beloved grandchildren whom she adored: Brandon and Dr. Janaye Schwartz, Duncansville; daughter-in-law, Gail Beyer, Olean, NY; grandsons: Michael Beyer (wife Kim), Depew, NY, and Christopher Beyer (wife, Melissa), Worcester, MA; and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many close friends, extended family, and Godchildren. She was the last surviving member of her family.

Mrs. Beyer and her husband were owners of Allegheny Mountain Inn Restaurant for 42 years. She then worked for Sears Roebuck and Company for 30 years until her retirement. She served on Duncansville Borough Council and election board for several years. Bertha was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Duncansville.

She enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved making Swedish weaving afghans, taking trips to Lancaster, PA, church activities, and shopping. Bertha loved cooking, baking, and was famous for her chocolate chip cookies. She loved decorating her house for holidays. She loved babysitting “her baby” Chyko.

Bertha was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a special “Mum” to Brandon, Janaye, and her granddog, Chyko. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She would do anything for anyone.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Thurs., Feb. 27, 2020 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Fri., Feb. 28 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Monsignor Robert Saly celebrant. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
