Valerie R Groce

Valerie Renee Groce, age 43, formerly of Hollidaysburg, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Carroll Hospital, Westminster, Md., with her family by her side. She was born May 27, 1975 in Altoona, a daughter of Herbert and Karen (Fitzgerald) Groce.

She is survived by her parents and her sister Tonya (Cliff) Mechalske, all of Hollidaysburg; her loving children: Maddox and Zoe Barger and their father, Eric Barger, of Altoona; loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, her boyfriend Justin Williams of Westminster, Md., and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Merle and Katherine Fitzgerald and her paternal grandparents Herbert Groce and Evelyn Groce-Proudfoot.

Valerie was a 1993 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School where she participated in cheerleading, volleyball, track and swim teams. She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Val loved to travel and traveled extensively across the United States. She visited many US National Parks and also traveled to Canada, Mexico, Europe, Central and South America where she hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. 

Valerie collected globes and enjoyed camping, and going to flea markets and antique stores. She loved the TV shows "Friends" and "Seinfeld, the movies "Annie" and "The Wizard of Oz", and will be remembered for her infectious laugh and great sense of humor.

Friends will be received on Fri., Nov. 2, 2018 from Noon until the 2pm Memorial service, officiated by Rev. Rich Morris, all at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1218 4th Ave., Duncansville. Interment will take place at New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
