Dorris Bowman Obituary

Dorris C. “Bugs” Bowman, age 79, of Mapleton Depot, formerly of Hares Valley, died Wednesday morning, August 1, 2018, at Hershey Medical Center from leukemia / lymphoma complications. He was born on February 23, 1939 in Huntingdon County, a son of the late Clair and Hazel (Waters) Bowman. He married Betty A. Cutshall at Fairview Church in 1961.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons: Ken (wife Sara) of State College and Kevin (wife Sharon) of Hill Valley; 4 grandchildren: Keith, Sierra, Ben and Dan; 6 great-grandchildren; and a sister Shirley Booher of Three Springs.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Berlyn and Joe Bowman.

Dorris was a 1957 graduate of Saltillo High School. He was a US Army veteran, serving as a medic from 1962-63. He retired in 2005 from Northern USA, where he worked as a pipe-liner. He was a member of the Susquehanna Laborers Union and was the last active charter member of Three Springs Hunting Camp.

“Bugs” enjoyed hunting, farming, meat cutting and butchering, saw milling, watching wildlife from the cabin, the porch or the kitchen, and making his rounds to see friends.

A grave-side committal service, officiated by Pastor Ernie Dell, will be held at Noon on Sat., Aug. 4, 2018 at Bowman’s Chapel Cemetery, Mapleton Depot.
